Muslims Attend Skopje Int’l Conference on Family Challenges

IQNA – An international scientific conference was held in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, on the occasion of International Family Day, with the participation of Muslims and universities and research institutions.

In a move reflecting the increasing academic interest in family issues amidst rapid social changes, Skopje hosted the international scientific conference organized by the Women’s Empowerment Foundation in cooperation with the Emine Zandeli Law Clinic of the South East European University, according to the Muslimsaroundtheworld website.

The conference was held on the occasion of International Family Day and aimed to discuss the place of the family in modern society and the challenges it faces in times of rapid change.

The event, which took place under the theme “Family and Society in Transition: Challenges, Values ​​and New Dynamics in Contemporary Times”, brought together representatives of academic and research institutions, university professors, students, women and civil society activists to foster a debate on the role of the family in creating a more sustainable, just and cohesive society.

Participants focused on five key issues affecting the contemporary family, including family justice, mental health and social well-being, intergenerational dialogue, domestic violence and the impact of modern social developments on the family structure and its traditional functions.

The event also emphasized the importance of preserving family values ​​and strengthening intergenerational ties, recognizing the family as a fundamental pillar of social stability and educational balance.

The conference saw the participation of numerous academic and social institutions, including the South East European University, the International Balkan University, the Access Foundation, the Municipality of Kair in Skopje, and the scientific journal Centrum.

This broad institutional presence reflects the growing interest in North Macedonia in finding scientific and social approaches to addressing family issues in the midst of rapid economic and cultural change.

Such events are particularly important in North Macedonia, where the Muslim community makes up about a third of the country’s population, and academic and social initiatives play an increasing role in supporting family stability and promoting social cohesion.

May 15 is designated as the International Day of Families, and the aim of this day is to raise awareness of the important role of the family in society.
